“Pentecost”

One springtime day in Israel,
Jesus’ disciples assembled.
They prayed as united people,
While on The Savior, they waited.

It was the Feast of Shavuot,
The Feast of Seven Weeks.
Fifty days Hebrews devote,
Then gather to hear Priests speak.

They celebrated God’s Law,
Commandments God’s fire had written.
They did not understand that now,
Their sins could be forgiven.

Many people were assembled,
From far parts of the whole world.
The Book of Acts gives these facts,
It was a tradition unfurled.

Then quickly in that upper room,
There came a great commotion.
The Holy Spirit would assume,
His due power and devotion.

His presence entered the whole place!
Tongues of fire shone on each head.
Then their own tongues spoke to erase,
Any doubt in the Godhead!

The ancient prophecy of Joel,
Was manifesting that instant.
God’s Spirit poured out, and behold,
They were all luminescent!

Hearts were filled with joy and faith,
And mouths with gospel messages.
They would articulate that day,
In over sixteen languages.

These disciples hit the streets,
This profound story to tell.
They spoke of Jesus with belief,
That could keep a man from Hell!

Bible history is ironic.
The day to celebrate The Law,
The Holy Spirit did descend,
Offering freedom for us all!
