Dear John,

It’s been a busy few weeks in Central Ohio meeting with community members and delivering in Washington.

Remembering D-Day:

On the morning of June 6th, 1944, soldiers of the Allied Expeditionary Force embarked on what General Eisenhower called "a great crusade" into immense danger in Normandy to liberate Europe from tyranny. Their bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Legislative Update:

I wanted to highlight one of the bills we voted on this week in the House. It’s called the American Entrepreneurs First Act. This bill would require citizenship verification for those applying for loans from the Small Business Administration (SBA).

This will ensure that only American citizens get benefits from the SBA, not illegal immigrants. In March, the SBA halted a loan of more than $780,000 to a small business where an illegal immigrant owned nearly 50% of the business. This bill makes sure that situation never arises again and that we reserve American government benefits for Americans.

Supporting Our Officers in Blue:

I was incredibly saddened to hear of the killing of an Ohio law enforcement officer, Morrow County Sheriff Deputy Daniel Sherrer, while he was on duty on Memorial Day. We will keep him and his loved ones in our prayers now that he has been laid to rest, and look forward to justice being served.

I was also shocked to learn that two officers from Mifflin Township were shot during a routine traffic stop last Wednesday night. In every engagement, routine or not, our brave law enforcement officers put themselves at risk to protect our community. I am keeping these officers and their families in my prayers and wish them a speedy and full recovery.

Violence against our law enforcement officers is unacceptable, and we need to stand by them as they protect and serve our communities.

Around Ohio:

On Tuesday of last week, I got the chance to meet with the Columbus Historical Society and tour the Deardruff House, the oldest standing structure in Franklin County and the first Post Office built in Central Ohio. As a supporter of historic preservation and a student of history, this was an incredible visit.

Later on Tuesday, I had the honor of participating in a groundbreaking ceremony for the London Police Department’s new headquarters. The old facility has been outdated for decades, and this new facility will allow them to recruit more officers and more effectively serve the community.

While I was there, I got the chance two honor two officers, Dylan Fout and Denise Dye, who rescued a special-needs 5-year-old from freezing cold water last year, saving his life. I thanked them for their bravery and gave them a copy of a speech I gave on the House floor honoring their heroism.
