Dear Reader,
We’re thrilled to announce that with your support, we surpassed our May campaign goal and raised more than $17,000 to bolster our nationwide education reporting. Thank you to all the readers who contributed to our anniversary campaign.
As newsletter readers, you have a front seat to education reporting that drives meaningful change, spurring legislation, improving schools and inspiring readers to engage with their local communities. More good news: We just received record-breaking recognition for the reporting you support. The Hechinger Report won six awards from the Education Writers Association at its national conference (this adds to the 100+ other awards we’ve won over the past 15 years!)
Our team won for an investigation into school discipline, a story on a superintendent who was shown the door after making big gains with English learners, and our podcast with GBH, College Uncovered. Our video and print coverage of the ripple effects from the fall of affirmative action won two awards. Jackie Mader also received a beat reporting award for her nuanced and probing narrative and investigative work in early education.
The education beat is more urgent than ever before, with a new administration pushing for seismic changes to many aspects of teaching and learning. We are meeting the moment with hard-hitting stories, opinion pieces and our constantly updated Trump Tracker.
Thank you for believing in and supporting not-for-profit education journalism. If you didn’t get a chance to help during our campaign, you can still contribute to bolstering our journalism.
