Weekly Newsletter: The United States is running a $2 trillion deficit this year. Over $1 trillion of that will go just to interest payments, and it is only getting worse.

John,

Earlier this week, you no doubt saw the world’s richest man and the world’s most powerful man trading insults on X that kept getting more salacious as the day wore on.

Amid the escalating spat, Elon Musk asked his followers a question:

Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle? A total of 5.6 million voted, and 80% said yes.

Eventually, the Trump-Musk drama will subside, but this poll speaks to a public dissatisfaction that is reaching a fever pitch. It is the same frustration No Labels saw when we launched our 2024 Unity ticket ballot project, and it is growing by the day.

- A new CNN/SSRS survey featured in The Liberal Patriot  ([link removed] ) found a record number of Americans saying neither party reflects their views. “Neither party” beat both Democrats and Republicans on who best represents the federal budget, on strong leadership, and on standing up for the middle class.
- A record share ([link removed] ) of Americans now identify as independents, as they flee both parties.
- In Michigan and Florida, independent candidates for governor – Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and Florida State Sen. Jason Pizzo – are gaining significant momentum in their fundraising and the polls.

Will any of this spur the creation of a third party? Should it?

No one can say, but Americans are demanding a serious conversation about how we break out of this two-party doom loop as we face looming challenges like our soaring national debt that could spark a major financial crisis ([link removed] ) . If you want to be part of these conversations, No Labels is the place for you.

Since our inception 15 years ago, No Labels has always been willing to disrupt, to think new and do new. We created the first-of-its-kind House Problem Solvers Caucus, bringing together Democrats and Republicans to find common ground. Later, we built bridges between the House and Senate, engendering the trust that enabled our closest allies to lead passage of the 2021 infrastructure bill. In 2023, we saw voters’ intense desire for better choices in the 2024 election and launched a historic ballot access effort.

Some of these innovations worked. Others did not. But that is the nature of innovation – if you do not try something different, nothing will ever change.

America once more finds itself in a moment ripe for disruption.

Yes, the two major parties still control the rules. They dominate the ballot, the debates, and the money. But they are not delivering what the public wants. That is why No Labels is inviting you to a National Conversation on July 9 to discuss whether it is time for an independent movement to come together.

If you feel politically homeless in 2025, you are far from alone. There are millions of us. It is time to start talking like it. Please RSVP to our July 9 event ([link removed] ) and answer our one-question poll:

Should America be considering alternatives to our two-party system? ([link removed] )

In the days and months ahead, No Labels will be continuing our essential work to bring Democrats and Republicans together in Congress. At the same time, there is a bigger, broader conversation that needs to be had about where our political system goes from here.

We do not have to agree on the solution. But we do need to start admitting there is a problem that is not going away and will take all of us to fix.

Nancy Jacobson, Ryan Clancy, and Dan Webb

P.S. – There is still time to RSVP to our June 26 Make Congress Work bicameral meeting. Do not miss the chance to see Republican and Democrat Members of the House and Senate meet on Capitol Hill for the kind of serious conversation about how to solve our country’s problems that you will not find anywhere else. RSVP for the virtual event ([link removed] ) to make sure you have the chance to see this long-overdue conversation.
