Catching Up with Quigley: Week In Review

Next week, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 11:30 a.m., I will be hosting a workshop with the Center for Disability & Elder Law on legal services for powers of attorney for healthcare and property, as well as living will declarations. The workshop will be held at 4455 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago, with a presentation followed by a question-and-answer session from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. I hope to see you there!

1. Demanded RFK Jr.'s Resignation

On Thursday, I demanded the resignation of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the Secretary of Health and Human Services. Since taking office, RFK Jr. has pulled funding for vaccines for diseases like the bird flu and HIV, spread lies and stigma about autism, and just last week, he released a report that cited research that doesn't even exist. Children and other Americans have and will die because of these disastrous decisions. It's time for him to go.

2. Introduced a Bill to Stop Black Market Guns

Gun violence has impacted far too many people across the country and right here at home in Chicagoland. Tackling this scourge is why I reintroduced my legislation to stop the trafficking of illegal firearms and prevent criminals from getting these guns. I want to make it easier for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (also known as the ATF)—the agency that enforces federal laws on firearms, explosives, and arson—to track the movement of illegal guns across state lines and share that data with state and local law enforcement. It's absurd that we don't already have laws in place to crack down harder on the gun black market. Together, we can stop guns from ending up in the wrong hands.

3. Confronted Trump's FAA Administrator

During a House Appropriations Committee hearing this week, I confronted Trump's Acting FAA Administrator Chris Rocheleau about the FAA inaction to reduce airplane noise around O'Hare Airport. I also questioned him about how the agency can function with Trump’s recent reduction in critical safety workers.Reports say that 12 percent of informational specialists — critical safety personnel who update our maps, charts, and data after disturbances in our airspace — have left or are planning on leaving the FAA. The administration owes it to the American people to explain who is performing these critical functions in the meantime.
