We've seen this playbook before — when a strong Democratic pro-choice woman runs for office, the far right launches a targeted disinformation campaign to discredit her. 

This time, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) is going after Rep. Emilia Sykes (OH-13) — a pro-choice champion representing one of the most competitive districts in the entire country. Republicans are targeting Emilia's seat because they're seeing the same numbers we are: Ohio's 13th Congressional District had the closest margins in the country for the presidential race.

The NRCC has spent the last week releasing lies about Emilia's track record in Congress. Here's the reality, John: Rep. Sykes has put forth a bipartisan legislative agenda with an unmatched commitment to be a champion for the families in her district. Whether it's the Mental Health Improvement Act or the Lower Your Taxes Act, Rep. Sykes has been committed to bipartisan solutions that help ALL her constituents, from her earliest days in the Ohio state Legislature. That's a huge part of why we awarded her our prestigious Gabrielle Giffords Rising Star Award in 2020! 

Here's the other thing, John: Ohio will have redrawn district maps in place for the 2026 midterms, and the impact on Sykes' district is still unclear. In 2024, Emilia won her race by a thin majority. The Cook Political Report is calling this race a "toss-up."

With the GOP prioritizing flipping this seat over fighting fair, we already know we'll need our entire pro-choice community to step up and help stop the Republican opposition machine in its tracks.
