The Week in Review
Happy Friday!
I hope you had a wonderful week. I am grateful to serve you all in the 119th Congress. Read below to see what I’ve been working on this week.
Commemorating the 81st Anniversary of D-Day
81 years ago, the eyes of the world were upon the young men at Normandy.
May we never forget their bravery and sacrifice as we continue to preserve our Republic.
All gave some, some gave all. The Greatest Generation.
House Committee Expands Investigation into the Coverup of Joe Biden’s Mental Decline
House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman James Comer announced that the Committee will be subpoenaing several former Biden staffers if they fail to agree to a transcribed interview. The Chairman’s list includes Biden’s physician, Kevin O’Connor, and former Chief of Staff Ronald Klain.
The coverup of President Biden’s mental decline is one of the greatest scandals in our nation’s history.
These former senior advisors were eyewitnesses to President Biden’s condition and operations within the Biden White House. They must appear before the House Oversight Committee and provide truthful answers about President Biden’s cognitive state and who was calling the shots.
I’ll keep you posted.

Tele-Town Hall Wrap Up
I hosted my virtual tele-town hall yesterday. Thousands of constituents joined the call to hear updates on what I’m doing in DC and Arizona’s Fifth District. We discussed President Trump’s continued work to secure the border, the jobs TSMC is bringing to our state, and the Big, Beautiful Bill. Thank you to all who joined and asked questions! If you missed it, click the image below to watch a recap:
House Oversight Committee Hearings
The House Oversight Committee held a hearing titled “The Federal Government in the Age of Artificial Intelligence.” Our witnesses stressed the urgent need for the federal government to adopt AI responsibly to enhance efficiency, improve public services, and reduce costs for taxpayers. In support of President Trump’s commitment to maintaining U.S. dominance in AI, my colleagues underscored the House Oversight Committee’s ongoing efforts to eliminate unnecessary obstacles and accelerate responsible AI innovation.
The Five Eyes Intelligence Oversight and Review Council (FIORC) is composed of the non-political intelligence oversight, review, and security entities of Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States. I discussed how Congress can work with Five Eyes in the development of AI while protecting the fundamental privacy rights of Americans. Click the image below to watch my questions:
The Subcommittee on Government Operations held a hearing titled “Safeguarding Procurement: Examining Fraud Risk Management in the Department of Defense (DOD).” We examined strategies to combat fraud in the DOD and the steps the DOD is taking to address these problems. Reducing the risk of fraud will save the Department and American taxpayers billions of dollars. I discussed which government contracts with the DOD are most prone to fraud. House Judiciary Committee Hearing
I chaired a Crime and Federal Government Surveillance Subcommittee hearing titled “Foreign Influence on Americans’ Data Through the CLOUD Act.” The United Kingdom has misused its agreement with the United States under the Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data (CLOUD) Act, threatening the privacy and security of Americans. Congress enacted the CLOUD Act in 2018 to provide more efficient access to electronic data for use in serious criminal investigations by certain foreign allies. While designed to include robust protections for privacy and civil liberties, a recent, secret order from the United Kingdom threatens the privacy and security of Americans. The UK’s order requires Apple to build a backdoor to allow the UK government to access encrypted data, setting a dangerous precedent and portending future orders by other countries as well as exposing Americans to further surveillance or cyberattacks.
The United Kingdom’s Investigatory Powers Act permits it to issue orders to tech companies, compelling them to weaken encryption or halt security upgrades for users around the world. The UK issued a Technical Capability Notice (TCN) to Apple that would require the company to provide a back door into encrypted cloud data for all users, regardless of location. This broad, extraterritorial order highlights the tension between national security and individual rights. If the UK is successful, it is likely that it and other governments will similarly seek to erode the rights of individuals, exposing Americans to further surveillance and security breaches.
While Congress enacted the CLOUD Act to provide our allies with assistance in their law enforcement efforts, the UK order takes advantage of this partnership. Congress must conduct oversight over the UK’s TCN to ensure it respects the rights of Americans. Click the image below to watch my opening remarks:
