JOHN,
Trump just issued an unconstitutional and racist travel ban—attacking countries with Black, brown, and Muslim populations.
This is a shameful expansion of his first term’s Muslim and African ban, now targeting people from 19 countries. Rooted in white nationalism, this policy will separate families and put people’s lives in danger.
We must reject ideologies and policies that seek to divide us. All humans have equal rights and worth, and we will keep pushing back against the ongoing dehumanization of our communities.
We defeated this ban before, and we can come together to defeat it again. One way we can fight back is by passing the NO BAN Act in Congress. I’m co-leading this legislation that would strengthen anti-discrimination protections and limit presidents’ ability to issue travel bans.
Can you sign on today to oppose this racist travel ban and demand Congress pass the NO BAN Act?
This new expanded travel ban overwhelmingly targets Black and brown people from countries in Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean.
It targets people fleeing the violence of U.S. bombs, sanctions, and interventions in countries like Yemen, Haiti, Venezuela, Cuba, Libya, and Iran. It would also prevent Americans from seeing their loved ones.
If you want to read more details about the travel ban, check out the National Immigration Law Center’s analysis below.1
In response to this expanded ban, the National Immigration Law Center wrote: “The impact of this new ban will be deeply racialized, as it will effectively bar hundreds of millions of Black and Brown people from entering the United States.”
I’ve been fighting Trump’s Muslim ban since before I served in Congress. When he came to speak in Detroit as a candidate in 2016, I interrupted the event by standing up and loudly demanding he read the Constitution—calling out his plans for a travel ban.
Will you fight back against Trump’s new travel ban and urge Congress to pass the NO BAN Act?
Thank you. Together, we’re standing up for our shared humanity and pushing back against attacks on all of our communities.
With you in the fight,
Rashida
