People from over a dozen countries are banned from traveling to the U.S.
Friend –
President Trump just signed a proclamation banning people from over a dozen countries from traveling to the U.S.
This order builds on the Muslim ban from Trump's first administration – once again targeting people for their nationality and religion. We felt the chaos the Muslim ban caused then, and this new travel ban will only build on that reign of terror. <[link removed]>
This is President Trump's latest attempt to terrify our neighbors and tell people of color they are not welcome here. But just like with Trump's first Muslim ban, now more than ever we need to continue showing up to fight for immigrants' rights, a more just immigration system, and welcoming communities.
We remember how this community fought back in the first Trump administration. Lawyers set up shop at baggage claim to offer their services. People all over the country protested at their local airports to show their support for their friends and neighbors.
And we know the ways that you are showing up now to defend your communities from the Trump administration's attacks on immigrants during his second administration.
When President Trump attempted to carry out mass deportations without due process to a notorious prison in El Salvador, tens of thousands of ACLU community members called on Congress to demand freedom for all those unlawfully detained and deported by the Trump administration.
When the Trump administration arrested students and scholars and attempted to deport them in retaliation for constitutionally protected speech, you took to the streets and demanded their release.
And since Election Day, 14,000 members of this community have trained as volunteers. And the ACLU has held over 150 Know Your Rights trainings, so we are all ready to defend our rights.
While we keep fighting nationwide, we also want you to be as empowered as possible in this moment. So before you travel, read our Know Your Rights guide to your rights when encountering law enforcement at the airport. <[link removed]>
