Folks, I was raised to work hard and take care of my community.

Growing up, my family struggled to make ends meet. My mom immigrated from Mexico, and my dad worked double shifts as a construction worker. We depended on Medicaid, and when I lost my health insurance as a teenager, it nearly killed me.

As the first in my family to attend college, I interned for then-Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. As a former nursing assistant, I was there to administer life-saving aid when she was shot in an act of political violence.

That day changed my life forever. I witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of gun violence and vowed to use my voice and platform to prevent it.

These hardships could have ended my career in public service before it even started, but instead, they fueled me to fight.

As a state legislator, I co-founded the LGBTQ caucus and fought to pass bills to protect gay marriage and survivors of sexual assault, increase gun violence prevention resources, and expand access to affordable healthcare.

So I know a thing or two about getting sh*t done.

Since gaining their MAGA trifecta, Republicans have done nothing but gut funding for essential programs like the Department of Education to line billionaires’ pockets.

I’m running for Congress because I won’t sit on the sidelines while they try to strip us of our rights and undermine our democracy.

Unlike most campaigns you’re hearing from, my race isn’t in a year and a half – it’s just weeks away. So we have an urgent opportunity to stop MAGA Republicans and stand up for our communities.

iVote was created in 2014 with one goal: secure voting rights for all Americans.

Rather than take on challenges in the court after unfair laws have passed, iVote plays defense on voter suppression efforts AND goes on offense to secure and expand access to voting.
