Email from Rep. Carter My work in TX-31 and Congress   Howdy Texan – I wanted to provide you with an update on my work for Texas' 31st district in the United States House. ON THE DOCKET: Salute to Academy Appointees Taking Care of America's Warriors May Constituent Services Overview Codifying President Trump's Executive Actions What do you think? THE BRIEF: Undocumented students in Texas are no longer eligible for in-state tuition after Texas agreed Wednesday with the federal government's demand to stop the practice. In an emergency ruling, a Biden administration-appointed federal judge in Colorado halted the deportation of the wife and five children of Mohamed Soliman, the Egyptian national under federal investigation for the Boulder firebombing attack on Sunday. The U.S. added 139,000 jobs in May and the jobless rate held steady at 4.2 percent, according to data released Friday by the Labor Department. SALUTE TO ACADEMY APPOINTEES This weekend, we proudly celebrated our Class of 2029 Service Academy Appointees. In just a few weeks, these exceptional young men and women will begin their journey at a U.S. military service academy, preparing to become officers in America's Armed Forces. These are the best and the brightest, and I know they will represent Texas' 31st district well. Please join me in wishing them well! TAKING CARE OF AMERICA'S WARRIORS This week, my Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill passed through the subcommittee. This bill is a testament to our unwavering commitment to those who wear the uniform and to the veterans who have served our nation honorably. This legislation invests in the health and well-being of our veterans, including focusing on mental health and homelessness assistance. It also prioritizes quality housing, reliable childcare, and other critical infrastructure for our service members and their families. Additionally, this bill sends a clear message that we take our national security in the Pacific seriously and will make the investments needed to keep America safe and deter aggression from China. Next week, the full Appropriations Committee will markup the bill and vote to advance it to the floor.   MAY CONSTITUENT SERVICES OVERVIEW In May, my office resolved 236 cases with federal agencies and helped constituents recover what was rightfully theirs: $475,330 in owed IRS refunds, back Social Security payments, and earned veterans’ benefits. That’s money back in the pockets of constituents! If you’re having trouble navigating federal agencies, my office is here to help. We fight for you! Click here to learn more. CODIFYING PRESIDENT TRUMP'S EXECUTIVE ACTIONS This week, the House voted to codify another set of President Trump's executive orders relating to the Small Business Administration (SBA). House Republicans passed, and I was proud to support the following bills on the floor this week: Capping Excessive Awarding of SBLC Entrants (CEASE) Act - This legislation caps the number of non-bank SBLC licenses, ensuring taxpayer-backed guarantees are not handed out to lenders the SBA cannot adequately oversee. American Entrepreneurs First Act- This bill ensures Small Business Administration funds are directed to American businesses and not accessible by individuals or businesses with foreign or undocumented ownership, and verifies the age of all recipients. Save SBA from Sanctuary Cities Act- This important legislation codifies two of President Trump’s pro-business executive orders that protect SBA employees and safeguard our entrepreneurs by relocating SBA offices out of sanctuary cities. WHAT DO YOU THINK? This week, the Trump administration announced a full travel ban on 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. He also announced a partial ban on seven countries, including Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela. In a recorded message, President Trump says "In the 21st century, we’ve seen one terror attack after another carried out by visa overstayers from dangerous places all over the world" as a reason for the travel ban. I want to know what you think about this policy. Click the question below to be taken to this week's What Do You Think? Survey. As always, thank you for staying engaged with the latest updates from Texas’ 31st Congressional District. It is an honor and a privilege to represent you and our great state in the United States House of Representatives. Sincerely, John R. Carter Visit our website!
