81 years ago this morning, American soldiers joined their allies and landed on the beaches of Normandy, beginning the liberation of Europe from Nazi oppression.
And in the Oval Office yesterday, German Chancellor Merz praised the United States for their role in ending the dictatorship that ruled Germany and most of Europe with an iron fist.
In response to this, Trump: “That was not a pleasant day for you.”
Again, presented with the lowest bar imaginable, Trump fails to clear it. His sympathies lie, as ever, with the brutal, genocidal dictatorship responsible for the deaths of millions.
Enough about Trump. He is already co-opting the 250th anniversary of the Army, the brave men who stormed those beaches and parachuted behind enemy lines on D-Day. We won’t let him take June 6th, too.
Our parents and grandparents sacrificed so much to meet their moment in history, when democracy was in great peril. Hundreds of thousands died in that fight, but they ushered in an era of peace, prosperity, and freedom.
We now face our own moment. Democracy is again under siege. How will we answer to future generations if we do not meet this moment with the same courage and resolve as our ancestors did?
Each of us must do whatever we can, wherever we are, whenever we can. VoteVets will not bend the knee to a dictator. We are fighting every day.
Maybe it’s not right for you to be out on the streets. Maybe you can’t make it to a a march or a rally. But something you may be able to do is make a donation of any amount you can afford to help VoteVets as we make our stand.
Can we count on you to make a contribution and help keep us in the fight? The amount is not as important as the donation itself. Because when you join thousands of others these donations add up fast. It turns into the kind of warchest that can face down a dictator like Trump — and win.
