Empowering the LGBTQ+ community to quit nicotine with Pride + Progress

This Pride Month, Truth Initiative is supporting the LGBTQ+ community in quitting nicotine through Pride + Progress, part of the Culture + Cessation Collective. The coalition, comprised of community leaders, LGBTQ+ advocates, mental health professionals, and cessation experts, provides an inclusive environment to discuss solutions to end nicotine addiction and share actionable resources. New study: Teen e-cigarette users with childhood trauma need increased support to quit

Adolescent e-cigarette users who reported a higher number of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) - potentially traumatic events such as abuse, neglect, and household dysfunction - were 20% less likely to successfully quit vaping nicotine compared to those with fewer ACEs, according to new research from a randomized clinical trial published in the Journal of Adolescent Health. The association of childhood trauma with difficulty quitting demonstrated in this study points to opportunities to strengthen youth vaping cessation programs.

Building on a decade of impact, the Truth Initiative College Program empowers students, faculty, and staff to quit nicotine

Since 2015, the Truth Initiative College Program has provided funding to over 235 colleges and universities to support the adoption of tobacco/nicotine-free campus policies. Building on a decade of impact, the program continues to provide crucial funding and now supports students, faculty, and staff in quitting nicotine with EX Program, Truth Initiative’s free digital quitting resource. In honor of the program’s 10-year anniversary, we spoke with current College Leader Arthur Campos Simōes about his experience serving as a College Leader at Columbia University in New York City.

Oklahoma: In response to HB 2783 becoming law, which would allow the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) board of directors to be removed “at the pleasure” of their appointing authority, TSET voted to file a lawsuit challenging the legislation stating it conflicts with the state’s constitution.
