** Big Pro-Life win in Polish Presidential Election
------------------------------------------------------------
Strongly pro-life, Karol Nawrocki, narrowly won the Polish presidential election on Monday, securing 50.89% of the vote in the race against pro-abortion Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski.
Nawrocki’s victory signals a shift in favour pro-life policies, following an election campaign where the issue was front and centre.
The push to overturn Poland’s pro-life laws has undoubtedly suffered a major setback following Nawrocki’s win, and the victory has also dealt a blow to the standing of Poland’s Prime Minister Donald Tusk, who is an ardent pro-abortion supporter.
Pro-life advocates in Poland have reason to celebrate; however, efforts to expand abortion access are unlikely to subside. It is expected that Prime Minister Tusk and others will seek to apply pressure - both domestically and from the EU - to alter Poland’s current laws. In response, pro-life supporters must stay alert and continue proactive efforts to defend existing protections.
** Government cannot shy away from uncomfortable research regarding new abortion law
------------------------------------------------------------
On Wednesday, the Pro Life Campaign broke the story about the fact that 1 in 8 women in Ireland visited a hospital emergency department after undergoing an abortion.
The latest research published on the matter, coupled with the contents of a reply to a recent Parliamentary Question, raise very real concerns about the risk to women’s health linked to the new abortion regime. The Government cannot continue to pretend this very troubling reality doesn’t exist.

Abortions in Texas have held at zero for two consecutive years
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission has released its Induced Termination of Pregnancy (ITOP) data for January 2025, showing that elective abortions remained at zero, in keeping with all other months since the Human Life Protection Act took effect in August 2022.
It’s a remarkable victory for life and underscores the importance of having pro-life laws - which are now possible at state level in the US following the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court in the Dobbs decision back in 2022.
Prior to the law changing, there were close to 3,000 abortions each month in Texas. Under the new law there, women still receive all necessary medical treatments in pregnancy to save their lives. In January 2025, for example, 14 ‘medically necessary’ interventions were made on these grounds in Texas. The information released doesn’t go into specifics about the cases so it’s not possible to know that when treating the mother if every reasonable effort was also made to save the life of the baby.
As a whole, the new Texas law and its life-saving impact stand as a powerful testament to the years of tireless work by dedicated pro-life volunteers.
Baby bundle box successfully piloted in 2023. Calls for reintroduction.
In February-September 2023, the Department of Children, Disability and Equality piloted a “Little Baby Bundle” scheme, which had a 96% uptake among those offered it as part of the pilot. 480 expectant mothers availed of the programme. As 8 of these women had twins, a total of 488 babies were provided with a baby bundle. The scheme cost €200,000.
However, the government have made no immediate plans to renew the scheme, with Minister Norma Foley telling Deputy Cathal Crowe that “matter will be looked at over the lifetime of this government, as part of ongoing budgetary considerations.”
The scheme offers a tangible support for new mothers, which helps to take some of the burden off parents expecting a new baby. It is a great initiative, which really deserves to be renewed and be continued on an ongoing basis. It is unfortunate the government does not seem especially pressed to renew the scheme, and two years on it remains off the agenda.
The government should certainly consider relaunching this scheme, particularly considering they spent €87,000 on an independent evaluation aimed at ensuring a smooth future roll-out.
Dr. Florian Willet
Euthanasia activist linked to suicide pod takes his own life
An euthanasia advocate arrested over the first reported use of a “suicide pod” has died in Germany after taking his own life, according to the device’s creator. Dr Florian Willet, 47, was arrested last year in connection with the death of a 64-year-old American woman, facing allegations of “inciting and abetting suicide” and a “strong suspicion
of intentional homicide.”
He was reportedly the only other person present when the woman used the pod to end her life in a Swiss forest last September. Authorities released Dr Willet after two months in custody, having ruled out intentional homicide. Dr Philip Nitschke, inventor of the Sarco pod and founder of Exit International, said the charges had a serious psychological impact on Dr Willet, contributing to his eventual decision to end his own life.
It is profoundly tragic that Dr Willet’s life ended in this way. One can only hope that his death will lead those advocating for euthanasia to pause and reflect deeply on the troubling direction of their cause - and perhaps rediscover a renewed respect for the sanctity and inherent worth of every human life.
