A weekly wrap of ADL’s reports, updates and analysis on antisemitism around the world.

This Week’s Topline

Together at a Time of Crisis

Yesterday, I stood among a crowd of friends in a plaza in Boulder, Colorado and I shared my anger.

Anger that it has come to this... That someone chose to attack dedicated and selfless people who were speaking out for 58 hostages who were stolen from us by Hamas and who remain in captivity in Gaza.

I shared my anger that just weeks ago, two wonderful young people were gunned down outside the Capital Jewish Museum. These attacks and many more in recent months — on campus, at Jewish institutions and this time at a peaceful gathering here in Boulder — have targeted people whose only ‘offense’ is that they are Jewish. Or someone thought they were Jewish. Or they were standing as allies alongside Jews.

This needs to stop. It is way past time. It’s way past time for our political leaders, community groups, media outlets, tech platforms and faith leaders to take action before more Jewish blood is spilled.

The vigil yesterday in Boulder was a heartwarming start. The Jewish community was joined by Governor Jared Polis, whose speech reflected the resolve of the gathered crowd: “Today, we return here, to the site where this occurred, to show by deeds and words that terrorism does not win.” We were inspired by a rabbi whose congregants were among those injured in the attack, and by a reverend and an imam from the community who denounced the attack and stood as allies in this moment of need.

At the end of my speech, I said something that you as a member of the ADL community know all too well:

What happened this past weekend, and what happened a few weeks ago teaches us that we have no choice.
We have got to battle this bigotry with everything we have.
This is the fight of our lives, and we can't afford to lose.

Sincerely,
Jonathan Greenblatt
CEO and National Director

Ben & Jerry’s Board Bashes Israel: ADL and JLens, an ADL-affiliated Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) and Jewish values-based investor network, condemned a recent statement by the independent board of Ben & Jerry’s that distorts Israel’s fight against terror in Gaza. The claims are factually inaccurate, inflammatory and harmful— and this rhetoric serves only to delegitimize Israel’s legitimate security concerns, distort the complexity of the conflict and contribute to the spread of antisemitism under the guise of social justice. As Ari Hoffnung, Managing Director of JLens cautioned: “At a time of rising antisemitism and disinformation, responsible investors
can’t afford to stay silent.” This proxy season, JLens has run campaigns calling on shareholders to reject anti-Israel shareholder proposals at General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Intel and Alphabet.

Under the Radar: Militias Use New Terminology to Hide in Plain Sight: Across the United States, militia groups are redefining how they identify themselves, signaling a broader effort to soften their image and manipulate public perception. Research by the ADL Center on Extremism over the past year shows many new militia groups have avoided the traditional “militia” moniker, especially those with younger members. Instead, many are using names such as “mutual assistance group” or “contingency group,” which allows them to camouflage their extremist ideology, sidestep public scrutiny and grow their networks both online and offline.

Jewish therapists were doxed in a Chicago Facebook group—targeted for offering support after 10/7 or simply for having Jewish-sounding names. They turned to ADL. We worked with Meta, who ultimately removed the page, and ADL supported an Illinois investigation & empowered the therapists to advocate for themselves.

A school in Lyon was set on fire and defaced with swastikas and antisemitic slogans — just days after synagogues were vandalized in Paris. This is a dangerous escalation. When schools are targeted, every child’s safety is at risk. France must act now.
