Dear Friend,

This week, Canada’s premiers stood shoulder to shoulder with the Prime Minister to announce a plan to fast-track “nation-building projects.”

The goal? To make Canada the strongest economy in the G7—and an “energy superpower.”

We understand the appeal of that vision. In uncertain times, strength sounds reassuring. Canadians are feeling squeezed, discouraged, and worried about what’s coming next. We all want to believe there’s a plan to keep us safe.

But here’s the problem: you can’t build a stronger Canada by ignoring the fire at our door.

As they spoke, more than 33,000 people were fleeing wildfires in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Alberta and the Northwest Territories. Communities like Flin Flon, La Ronge, and Fort McMurray are under threat again. Northern evacuees are sleeping in gymnasiums and churches, wondering if they’ll have homes to return to.

Safety doesn’t come from cutting environmental reviews or expanding fossil fuel exports. It comes from investing in what actually protects us—a national firefighting service, a fleet of water bombers, Indigenous-led land stewardship, and the infrastructure communities need to weather what’s ahead.

The Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs says a national firefighting service could be up and running within weeks. They’ve already submitted a turnkey plan. What’s missing is the political will to act.

That’s where we come in. The Green Party is working to keep climate and emergency preparedness on the agenda—and in the House of Commons. But we need your help to build capacity, organize, and push harder.

Let’s make sure the Canada we’re building is one we can live in. Safely. Sustainably. Together.

With hope and determination,
The Green Party of Canada

P.S. In honour of Green Party leader Elizabeth May’s 71st birthday this month, we’ve set a goal to raise $71,000 by June 30 to fuel our campaign for climate preparedness. Every donation brings us closer.
