John, Republicans put a sneaky line in Trump's so-called "Big Beautiful Bill" to try to shut down Planned Parenthood by blocking Medicaid from covering care at Planned Parenthood health clinics.
Seems like the millionth time they've tried to do something like this 🙄 – and they're hiding their efforts because they know how deeply unpopular it is to come after Planned Parenthood.
Republicans like to muddy the waters, so I want to be clear:
1. It’s not about saving money – it costs more. The Congressional Budget Office says “defunding” Planned Parenthood would increase the deficit by $300 million. Why? Because Planned Parenthood provides basic health care that saves Americans money long-term.
2. Planned Parenthood isn’t getting handouts. They’re reimbursed for care – just like any clinic – when patients use Medicaid for cancer screenings, birth control, STI testing, and other preventive care.
3. Federal dollars don’t fund abortion – period. Since 1977, the Hyde Amendment has barred federal funds from covering abortion, except in rare cases. Republicans' proposed cuts only affect the basic health care millions rely on.
For many Pennsylvanians, Planned Parenthood is their only provider. Without affordable access to health care, thousands will face the impossible choice between their health and other basic needs – all while Republicans’ rich friends get even richer from their massive tax breaks.
We need to sound the alarm. If you’re able, will you chip in a few bucks to help fight back? We have to show Republicans we’re not backing down.
Thanks for standing with me,
John ❤️
