Tell San Francisco's legislators: Stand up for transit!

The only reason the Bay Area traffic isn’t as notorious as Los Angeles is because we have BART and Muni. Both of these are on the chopping block if Governor Newsom and the California Legislature don't provide enough transit funding in this year’s budget.

The Governor's budget proposal puts $3 billion of statewide funding for public transit at risk in the next 5 years, including over $400 million for Muni. Muni is already facing a budget deficit that has led to service cuts and fare increases, and if this state funding isn't added back into the budget by the legislature, Muni's cuts will hit harder and sooner.

San Francisco's legislators are supportive of transit funding to help save Muni and BART, but we need you to ask them to do MORE. The state budget will be approved by the Assembly by June 15, so now is the time to call our Assembly Members and ask them to prioritize public transit with their colleagues ahead of this deadline.

Use the tool linked below as a guide to call Assemblymembers Matt Haney and Catherine Stefani, both of whom represent San Francisco, and tell them to prioritize transit funding.

If you live outside of San Francisco, check out Move California's tool to contact your representative here.

Let's keep Market Street Moving!

Removing cars from Market Street has demonstrably improved Muni service and reduced injuries for pedestrians and people on bikes, improving Muni travel times by up to 14% and reducing traffic collisions on Market by 40%.

Last month, Mayor Daniel Lurie made a unilateral decision to allow Waymo free rein on Market Street. Now, transit riders will not only need to deal with increased transfers and delays brought on by upcoming service cuts, but also the delays and hazards caused by a fleet of new Waymo vehicles flooding Market Street.

For a full recap, check out SFTR's Community and Policy Manager, Dylan Fabris', blog post published in response to Mayor Lurie’s decision.
