Right now, Joni Ernst is in the Senate, pushing hard to gut Medicaid and take health care away from millions of people basically overnight.

Recently, a room full of Iowans told her people in our state will die if she gets her way.

And she said, "Well, we're all going to die." That's it. That was her answer.

I don't know who Joni Ernst thinks she represents, but no Iowan I know – Republican, Non-Partisan, or Democrat – shrugs at the thought of a neighbor dying.

I can't let that go.

That's why I am announcing that I'm running to represent Iowa in the U.S. Senate. We deserve a Senator who'll stand up for working people – our lives, our families, and our future – not sell us out to billionaires and special interests.

We started this movement in 2018 to fight for people who are hurting and who politicians like Joni Ernst ignore, take for granted, or cast aside.

People working two and three jobs and still falling behind.

Kids growing up with less than they deserve.

Seniors rationing their meds because they can't afford to refill them.

Parents skipping meals so their families can eat.

Folks who are struggling just to get by, while Joni Ernst funnels cash back into the pockets of the mega-rich and tries to pass off cruelty as "policy."

I'm not taking that sitting down. I fundamentally believe we deserve more than a GoFundMe broken health care system, a JBS food system, and a Dollar General economy.

This campaign is going to be tough. The robber barons who put Joni in the Senate will fight with everything they have to keep her there. We'll be up against big money and dirty tricks.

My late friend Congressman Berkley Bedell ran on this slogan: Does the 1% now own your government? Does the 99% have a chance?

Berkley asked Iowans that question more than 30 years ago, and it's just as relevant today: as another of my heroes, Justice Brandeis, said, "We can have democracy in this country or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of the few, but we can't have both."

But right now, we've got each other and a growing movement of thousands, and that's how we'll win this fight.
