Republican Leaders Sound the Alarm on Budget, Public Safety & Rule of Law

With less than two weeks remaining in the First Regular Session of the Legislature, House and Senate Republicans held a pre-session legislative briefing today to highlight several critical issues facing our state.

Key topics included:

State Budget & Taxes

House Republican Leader Billy Bob Faulkingham provided an update on the status of the unbalanced state budget and looming Democrat-led tax increases that could impact working Maine families and small businesses.

Red Flag Proposal & Public Hearing Law

Senate Republican Leader Harold "Trey" Stewart explained the legal requirement to hold a public hearing on the controversial Citizen’s Initiative “Red Flag” gun control proposal—a requirement the Democrat-led Judiciary Committee is refusing to meet.

Legislative Process Violations

Senator Richard Bradstreet reminded the public that Governor Mills signed a 2019 law requiring public hearings, a law now being openly ignored by committee chairs.
