Summer Lee just got done grilling Trump’s Education Secretary, Linda McMahon, on the administration’s assault on our public education and attempt to erase Black history from our textbooks… humiliating is an understatement.

Today, in the Education & Workforce Committee that Summer sits on, bumbling Secretary of Education Linda McMahon, best known for her work in the World Wrestling Federation, came to explain the Education Department’s “priorities” under Donald Trump.

But we already know what those priorities are: defunding and shutting down the Department of Education.

Summer wasn’t going to let Secretary McMahon come to Congress without exposing her lies and holding this administration accountable for their war on public education.

While this right-wing, extremist Dept. of Education tries to ban anything they consider “illegal DEI,” Summer asked McMahon what exactly that would include. Here are some of the things that Linda McMahon couldn’t confirm or deny are “illegal DEI:”

• Joe Biden winning the 2020 election
• The Tulsa race massacre
• Ruby Bridges, the first Black child to integrate public schools in the South

In fact, Secretary McMahon didn’t even know who Ruby Bridges is or what the Tulsa race massacre was! Seems like we should be funding public education after all, and Secretary McMahon should be the first person in the classroom — and the last person near our Dept. of Education.

While too many corporate, do-nothing Democrats have been capitulating to Republicans to appease their right-wing donors, Justice Democrats like Summer are only fighting for their constituents and community. Now more than ever, we need strong progressives like Summer to lead the Democratic Party against the Trump administration and towards a better future for us all.
