APCAW panel—Cultural importance of ash, multicultural response to EAB
*Tomorrow! June 5, 2025,* 6:00PM-7:30PM; Online webinar via Zoom
A panel of Wabanaki and non-Wabanaki researchers at the Ash Protection Collaboration Across Waponahkik lab will share and discuss the benefits of a blended, multicultural approach to protecting our ash, as well as how people can get involved to support this work.

Theresa Secord—Honoring basketmakers, MIBA, and our shared cultural heritage

Founder of the Maine Indian Basketmakers Alliance (MIBA) and recent recipient of a $100,000 award from the Ruth Foundation for the Arts, Penobscot basketmaker Theresa Secord will offer a culminating presentation on the cultural and community implications of conserving Brown Ash. Theresa will share her craft and connections related to the tree at the center of Wabanaki origins.

Action for Ash Day: Inventory and Long-term Monitoring Plots Training
*July 22, 2025, * 8:30 AM–4 PM; Colby College, Waterville, ME; Free Lunch!
Join the Ash Protection Collaboration Across Wabanakik [ [link removed] ] (APCAW), the Gulf of Maine Research Institute [ [link removed] ] (GMRI), and the Monitoring and Managing Ash [ [link removed] ] (MaMA) program at the Ecological Research Institute to practice short and long term ash monitoring protocols and learn how to contribute data from your own community to a broad community science effort. Land trust or conservation staff, conservation volunteers, citizen scientists, and private landowners are encouraged to join. This day of action will consist of morning and afternoon sessions. The morning will train participants in how to collect and submit data to APCAW & GMRI's ash community science effort. The afternoon will focus on setting up long term lingering ash monitoring plots.
