And why it matters now more than ever

Hi John,

Imagine being accused of a crime and the government detains or deports you without giving you a chance to respond. No evidence. No hearing. No appeal.

No due process.

That kind of power move isn't just unfair. It's unconstitutional.

At its most basic, due process is a protection guaranteed by the Constitution to ensure that the government can't arbitrarily take away the rights of anyone on U.S. soil…including you. And most Americans agree: due process is a fundamental right that should apply to everyone—citizen or not.

Bar graph with the first option on the left and the second option on the right. If the Trump administration wants to deport someone from the U.S. who is not a U.S. citizen, what should happen to the person next? That person should...First get a U.S. ourt hearing or other U.S. legal process, before they can be deported (67%). Be deported, without getting a U.S. court hearing or legal process first (33%). We recognize that, if the government can strip others of their basic rights, what's to stop it from doing the same to the rest of us?

Staying informed is the first step to protecting ourselves and each other.
