We’ve said it before: this is a deadly bill that will make our communities less safe. SB 50 would allow people to carry loaded, hidden handguns in public - with no safety training, no background check, and at just 18 years old.
Our hearts are broken for the Mountain View community after Sunday's mass shooting, and especially for Shawn Patrick Hood, who died in the shooting; for the 11 people injured; and for the scores of others who witnessed this horrific event and whose lives are forever changed. Instead of working to make us safer in the wake of this tragic shooting, NC Republican lawmakers are laying the groundwork to recreate this tragedy in communities small and large, state-wide. ACT NOW: Email your NC Representative today to stop Permitless Carry. [[link removed]]
We’ve seen the tragic consequences in other states like West Virginia which passed Permitless Carry in 2016. In the years that followed, firearm deaths increased 29% overall; more specifically, firearm homicide increased 48% and firearm suicide increased 22%. 1,2 North Carolina cannot afford to make the same mistake. Email your NC Representative today, before it's too late. [[link removed]]
Thank you for joining with us to fight for safer communities!
In solidarity,
Becky & Sara
PS: Help us reach more people! Forward this email to 3 friends or family in North Carolina, and ask them to contact their NC Representative, too.
