You will never look at a plane the same way again. Linda works for a social media company deleting inappropriate videos by day, and lives in the tiny converted garage of another family’s house at night. Her biggest joy – and her most expensive hobby – is saving enough money to take round-trip flights. Not to get anywhere in particular, but to spend time with the airplanes themselves. What do you do when you’re sexually attracted to airplanes? And your one wish is to die in an airplane crash, which would represent your “marriage” to that airplane? For Linda, the answer has always been to keep it a secret and simply take flight whenever financially able. But when she makes the new goal of marrying a pilot (in order to get closer to planes) her simple and small plane-obsessed life starts to get a lot more complicated. This book could have been nothing more than a gimmick that uses plane-obsessed Linda for easy laughs and shock comedy. Instead, author Kate Folk elevates (see what we did there?) the concept of objectfilia and spins it into a moving (did it again) and thoughtful look into what it means to love – and how we love each other. Can we even say that it’s even heartwarming? |
