Dear John,
The Senate is on the verge of passing a dangerous reconciliation spending bill that would devastate immigrant communities, pour billions into supercharging detention and deportations, and slash funding from healthcare, education, workforce, and food assistance programs for millions of Americans.
The stakes are too high to remain silent. Stand with the American Immigration Council and tell your senator to oppose the bill [[link removed]] .
Take Action [[link removed]]
This bill is a direct attack on due process, family unity, and legal immigration. If passed in its current form, it would:
* Turn legal immigration into a pay-to-play system by imposing astronomical fees on many immigration benefits, including a $1,000 fee just to apply for asylum and charging up to $8,500 to sponsor an unaccompanied child.
* Pricing non-citizens out of the workforce by mandating work permit renewals every 6 months for asylum applicants—instead of every 5 years—and other status holders, overwhelming the system and impacting thousands of noncitizen workers that fill critical labor shortages.
* A 265% increase to ICE’s detention budget , making it nearly 50% larger than the entire federal prison system.
* A 400% increase in ICE’s budget for deportation flights , further enabling the agency to circumvent court orders and due process.
* $8 billion to hire 10,000 new ICE agents —a 130% workforce increase—bolstering ICE’s presence in our communities.
Tell your senator to vote NO on the reconciliation spending bill [[link removed]] . We need policies that protect families, uphold due process, and support—not target—our communities.
Sincerely,
Nayna Gupta
Policy Director, The American Immigration Council
