Discover a "pebble brook paradise" for trout fishing
Have you fished Verdigris Creek? This cold-water trout stream in northeastern Nebraska allows year-round fishing because it never freezes. In addition, Game and Parks fisheries biologists stock 200 pan-sized rainbow trout there each week.

Updated habitat, contour maps available online
Lake contour maps, as well as habitat or structure maps, can increase your fishing success by providing a better picture of fish movement, depth changes and key fishing spots. Check out the map collection on our website – many of which have been updated to reflect recent changes!

Aquatic restoration at Harlan County Lake
Improvements are on deck at Harlan County Lake! A large aquatic ecosystem restoration project removed 150,000 cubic yards of silt and dredged a channel between the cove and the lake.
Funded in part by the Aquatic Habitat Stamp program, the project will include improved bank fishing access and, ultimately, improved catches of crappie and other fish.

Community events this summer offer fishing instruction, connection
Whether you'd like to meet a potential new fishing buddy, pick up a few new fishing tips, or bring a friend who's never fished before — Community Fishing Nights are for you.
Find an event near you and take advantage of free fishing instruction, as well as loaner gear and bait for the evening. All you need is a fishing permit if you're age 16 or older.

 Walleye Challenge heats up; still time to join!
The Midwest Walleye Challenge is heating up, with anglers logging some impressive catches. Staff have verified a 30-inch catch and another that was 7.9 inches. There's still time to sign up!

 Fishing event offers instruction, permit draw
On June 28, join us at Fort Kearny to learn the basics of fishing, fly fishing, bow fishing and kayak fishing. You may also enter a drawing for a half-price youth lifetime fishing permit.
