John -
Brazil is auctioning off parts of the Amazon to fossil fuel companies.1
If these sales go through, it would cause devastation: drilling in this area would increase Brazil's oil production by an estimated 10 billion barrels,2 disturb one of the world's most biodiverse regions, and severely impact the lives and livelihoods of Indigenous Peoples.
It's honestly mind-boggling.
But while it is upsetting, it is also exactly why we've created and grown this incredible global movement for climate justice — so we have the power to fight back, and demand that countries around the world do better.
I'll explain more about our plans to end the era of fossil fuels in a moment, but first, I want to give you and every member of our movement the chance to do everything you can to stand up to the corruption and greed of the fossil fuel industry:
In November, Brazil will be hosting this year's most important global climate conference, COP30. Unlike recent COPs hosted by petrostates and authoritarian regimes, this summit takes place in one of the world's largest democracies, with a powerful history of grassroots movements — making it a unique opportunity for climate action.
And at 350.org, here's how we're stepping up:
But there's still much to do if we're going to take down the fossil fuel industry once and for all. And the truth is that, unlike Big Oil, we do not have unlimited finances or entire governments in our pockets.
What we do have, however, is campaigners on the ground ready to devise the most strategic tactics to replace fossil fuels with community-owned renewable energy — in Brazil, and around the world. We have an entire global organization's worth of staff ready to spread, amplify and maximize those campaign tactics. And we have an incredible movement of people like you, John, ready to jump in and support us.
In moments like these, when the future of the climate and frontline communities is at risk, we mobilize. We organize. And we win. Are you with us?
Thank you for being by our side in this fight for climate justice.
In solidarity,
Ilan Zugman
