Recently, weeks have inverted in the legal world. The days have been steady, even sometimes quiet. Then, on Friday afternoon, we received a torrent of court opinions and orders. Even the administration has been at its most outrageous heading into and over the weekend.

This weekend did not follow that pattern.

Yes, there were some significant developments. For example, our friends at Democracy Forward scored a big victory on Saturday when the 9th Circuit rejected the administration’s request to halt a lower court order blocking the reorganization of the federal government. This is a very important case that may very well end up on the Supreme Court.

On Sunday night, Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer sent a letter to senators promising that his caucus would “fight tooth and nail to strike” a provision in the GOP budget bill making it harder for judges to hold the Trump administration in contempt of court. “Republican’s naked subservience to a lawless President is gravely dangerous and Senate Democrats won’t stand for it.”

But for the most part, the weekend proceeded as usual. Administration officials took to the Sunday shows to spread lies and misinformation, the legacy media provided limited pushback, and Democrats were maligned for not being in perfect alignment.

The media’s obsession with post-election books continued, though it was more muted than it once was. Turns out, the audience for gossip about President Biden’s decision to run and then abandon reelection is limited to reporters, rightwing critics, and political junkies. Who would have thought.
