Happy Pride Month, John!
It’s my favorite time of year — Pride Month! A time to celebrate the vibrancy, resilience, and remarkable contributions of the LGBTQ+ community. From art and activism to public service and family life, the LGBTQ+ community shapes our nation every day.
Our community is growing: 7.6% of U.S. adults and a staggering 22.3% of Gen Z now identify as LGBTQ+. That’s not just a statistic — it’s a powerful reminder that visibility, representation, and equality matter more than ever.
But while we celebrate, we also remain vigilant. Across the country, extremist politicians are trying to turn back the clock — banning books, targeting trans youth, and introducing over 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills in state legislatures.
We see what’s happening. And we won’t let it happen here.
In Connecticut, we know who we are. We are a state that leads with love, not fear. In 2008, we became the third state in the nation to legalize same-sex marriage — a victory won through relentless advocacy and the leadership of Democrats who refused to back down.
Today, Connecticut Democrats continue that fight. We are proud to stand shoulder to shoulder with our LGBTQ+ community — not just during Pride, but every single day. We’re defending rights, expanding opportunity, and making sure every person — no matter who they are or who they love — can live freely, safely, and authentically.
