🏳️🌈 ✊ Happy Pride Month, Comrades! ✊🏳️🌈
|
In years past, Pride Month has been marked by widespread displays of “rainbow capitalism,” in which corporations co-opt the message of LGBTQ+ Pride and exploit queer workers in order to turn a profit. They may display Pride flags or even have sponsored floats in Pride parades, but as socialists, we understand that these performative actions do nothing to benefit the queer liberation movement and are an insult to the working class.
Under the second Trump administration, as more companies roll back DEI programs and initiatives, we are likely to see less rainbow capitalism. Corporations no longer believe these empty displays to serve their bottom lines. Fewer financial institutions, police departments, and major companies giving their logos rainbow treatments, promoting LGBTQ+ content, or selling Pride-inspired products for the month of June only drives home the point that true queer liberation cannot be achieved without dismantling capitalism and achieving economic justice for the multiracial working class and all oppressed people. With the growing threat of fascism and violent attacks on queer and trans rights here and around the world, this fight is more urgent than ever.
As members of Atlanta DSA, we are organizing to build a world in which our queer and trans siblings never experience employment or housing discrimination, have bodily autonomy and access to free life-saving, gender-affirming healthcare, and can live safe, authentic, and fulfilling lives. This month and every month, we celebrate and fight for our many LGBTQ+ comrades!

In 2022, Atlanta Starbucks workers made history by winning their first union election in the state of Georgia. Since then, Starbucks Workers United has organized 12 stores in Georgia, and Atlanta Starbucks workers have become a vibrant force in the growing Atlanta labor movement.
Now, after a over a year of dragging their feet at the bargaining table, the billion-dollar company has taken things to a new low and threatened to close Ansley Mall Starbucks, one of the strongest union stores in the South. This is no coincidence. Starbucks realized they can't beat workers fair and square, so now they're trying to demoralize workers, hoping they give up the fight. We can't let them do this.
It's time to show Starbucks corporate that Atlanta is a union town! Please use our easy letter writing tool at atldsa.org/ansley to email Starbucks management to let them know closing Ansley Mall is unacceptable. Our friendly baristas at Starbucks work hard, day in and day out to keep Atlanta caffeinated. All they're asking for is a good union contract.
Send your email NOW to tell Starbucks to STOP union busting, and let them know the community wants to keep Ansley Mall Starbucks OPEN!
