The Members met with top cybersecurity and tech companies and held a field hearing at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University to examine key issues—including critical infrastructure resilience, technological innovation, and regulatory harmonization—and explore solutions to strengthen national cyber defenses. They also convened breakout discussions with companies like Apple, Microsoft, Tanium, Ivanti, Horizon3.ai, and others. "Meeting directly with the technology leaders and experts driving the future of cybersecurity allowed us to hear firsthand how Congress can better support their work—whether that means strengthening public-private partnerships, cutting through outdated red tape, or ensuring federal policies keep pace with the rapid evolution of the digital landscape," said Andrew. ANDREW IN THE NEWS Representatives call for U.S. Merchant Marine Academy to be focal in federal maritime revitalization " Long Island representatives are calling for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy’s modernization plan to be a focal point of the national maritime strategy, the latest efforts in recent actions to revitalize the deteriorating Kings Point campus. 'We cannot rebuild maritime power without first rebuilding the institution that produces the officers who will lead it,' the letter states. 'Long-term modernization of USMMA must not be a side initiative—it should be a foundational element of this strategy.' Rep. Tom Suozzi (D–Glen Cove) and Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R–Sayville), backed by four other bipartisan congressional members all on the academy’s Board of Visitors, sent a May 23 letter to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and federal Management and Budget Director Russell Vought to focus on the Kings Point-based academy...The letter supports President Donald Trump’s Shipbuilding Executive Order, an April 9 order calling for bolstering the country’s commercial shipbuilding capacity and maritime workforce. The order cites 'decades of Government neglect [sic]' as the reason for the industry’s weakening. 'Our maritime industry has been outpaced by adversaries not due to a lack of capacity or talent among our mariners, but because they have been underserved by policy, left without the investment and infrastructure they need to compete,' they wrote. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew, Catholic Health, Island Harvest Food Bank Advance Efforts to Address Food Insecurity This week, a new Island Harvest Nutrition Pathways site opened in Bay Shore, made possible by the $1 million federal grant secured by Andrew. The program, run in partnership with Catholic Health, provides food-insecure patients referred from Catholic Health ambulatory locations with twelve sessions of nutrition counseling by an Island Harvest registered dietitian, along with access to healthy food from an on-site market. “I am proud to have secured the federal grant that helped make this new facility possible, and I’m grateful to Catholic Health and Island Harvest for their leadership in turning that investment into real help for Long Island families,” said Andrew. “No one should have to choose between feeding their children and meeting other basic needs. Together, we are delivering practical, community-based solutions that provide healthy food and help families get back on their feet.” CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Helping Secure Widow’s Benefits A constituent reached out to Andrew’s casework team after facing challenges obtaining her Social Security widow’s benefits. Andrew’s team intervened and worked directly with the Social Security Administration to resolve the issue. As a result, the constituent was approved for her monthly widow’s benefit, in addition to her existing retirement benefit, and will receive retroactive payments covering the months she was owed. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Champions U.S. Merchant Marine Academy's Role in America’s Maritime Strategy Andrew and fellow Long Island Rep. Tom Suozzi recently urged the Administration to make the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) a central pillar of America’s maritime revitalization. As a member of the USMMA Board of Visitors, Andrew is proud to be a leading voice for the Academy’s modernization, growth, and critical role in shaping the future of America’s maritime workforce. The letter calls for a comprehensive Campus Modernization Plan to ensure the academy continues producing the merchant mariners vital to maintaining a strong U.S.-flag fleet, bolstering sealift readiness, and strengthening America’s maritime power for the future. Andrew Urges Federal Support for Criminal Alien Detention Costs Andrew and Congresswoman Laura Gillen led a bipartisan letter urging House Appropriations leaders to boost funding for the Department of Justice’s State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) in the FY2026 spending bill. Enforcing America’s immigration laws is a federal duty, and Washington must stop forcing local taxpayers to cover the costs of incarcerating undocumented criminals. SCAAP helps ensure states, counties, and local governments are not left footing the bill alone. Andrew is fighting to deliver the federal resources our communities need to hold convicted criminal aliens accountable and keep Long Island families safe. Thanks for reading!
