I’m the “I’ve watched children suffer from preventable illness and injury while politicians do absolutely nothing” kind of scared. I’ve treated kids who’ve been shot. Kids whose families struggle to afford their medications. Kids who live with mold that causes asthma attacks, miss school for climate disasters, and watch politicians use them as political pawns. And now? Trump is causing chaos and Lindsey Graham is right by his side. And Medicaid — the program that keeps half our pediatric patients insured, healthy, and…alive — is on the chopping block to pay for tax breaks for billionaires. So yeah, I never planned to run for Senate. But I’m scared. I’m pissed. I’m motivated. And I’m 100% in.
I’m running because the Republican Party, led by people like Lindsey Graham, is dismantling the very systems that keep our kids safe here in South Carolina. I’m running because the issues I care about — children’s healthcare, vaccines, gun violence, public education, Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare — are under direct attack right now. And I’m running because I consider it my professional duty as a pediatrician — to give children a strong voice at the national level. Too many are comfortable on the sidelines. That won’t work for me. We need bold leaders who aren’t afraid to fight. I’m ready. Even though the path will be hard, I know Lindsey Graham must be held accountable. He certainly doesn’t deserve a free pass back to D.C. for six more years.
Thank you for believing in this campaign, Dr. Annie Andrew
