John, it could soon get harder to vote in Ohio — and that’s just the beginning.

If you’ve been following the SAVE Act in Congress, two matching state-level bills are basically Ohio’s version, but even worse, because they also attack the citizen petition process for new ballot measures.

We continue to see how far politicians will go to try to silence voters’ voices. In Ohio, we’re mobilizing volunteers to contact their lawmakers and demand that they reject these attacks on democracy. And throughout America, we’ll keep fighting new and ongoing attempts at taking power away from the people.

In Ohio, SB 153 and HB 233 would change over 40 sections of law governing voting and elections.

They would create three entirely new sections of voting law and add new SAVE Act-style requirements that would make it harder for Ohioans — especially seniors, low-income individuals, students, and rural voters — to exercise the fundamental right to vote.

In addition, the legislation would jeopardize the citizen petition process for ballot measures by threatening petition committee members and circulators with politically motivated investigations — which could criminalize civic-minded community members for being engaged in democracy.

These proposals are massive, unnecessary, and deeply harmful — and they must be stopped at all costs.

Contribute $15 or whatever you can to our May fundraising goal and make sure we have the resources needed to help stop this legislation in Ohio and fight for fair elections with fair maps across the country. → [link removed]

We’ll have more updates from Ohio in the weeks ahead.

Thanks,
