Dear John,

As Pride season arrives, our movement’s resilience, visibility, and unity are more vital than ever. This month, we celebrate crucial wins, from advocacy victories at the UN to empowering the next generation of activists to lead. We amplify grassroots truths through new community-driven resources and invite you to unite in solidarity with those who cannot safely march this Pride.

Each story below highlights the strength of our global movement and provides opportunities for you to take meaningful action alongside us.

** We Tell Our Truths: Outright’s New LGBTIQ Country Overviews Are a Community Resource and a Reality Check
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]

Outright International has introduced a new series of LGBTIQ Country Overviews ([link removed]) , designed as a community-driven resource to document and highlight the lived realities of LGBTIQ individuals worldwide. These overviews serve as both a tool for local activists and a reality check for global policymakers. The initiative aims to inform advocacy efforts and promote accountability in pursuing human rights for LGBTIQ people globally by providing detailed accounts of legal, social, and political conditions across various countries. This launch comes at a critical time. Since 2009, the U.S. State Department’s annual Human Rights Reports included dedicated sections on violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, later also adding gender expression and sex characteristics – providing crucial visibility and data on violence, discrimination, and legal barriers faced by LGBTIQ communities. But in 2025, under the
Trump administration, if the reports are even released, we don’t expect any SOGIESC references.

** Advocacy Week 2025: Activists' Voices at the UN
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]

Outright’s 2025 Advocacy Week, held from May 11–16 in New York City, convened LGBTIQ activists from across the globe to engage directly with United Nations diplomats and agencies. At a time of intensifying anti-LGBTIQ rhetoric, regressive legislation, and drastic funding cuts, this convening offered a rare and vital space for frontline advocates to be heard where global decisions are made. The week provided participants with high-level advocacy training, peer strategy sessions, and targeted diplomatic meetings. Activists from Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Southeast Asia shared urgent realities from their countries, pushed for accountability, and built alliances across regions. Advocacy Week is more than an event—it is a powerful intervention in global policymaking, ensuring that the voices of LGBTIQ people most impacted by violence and exclusion are not just included, but prioritized.

** UN Resolution Preserves Protections Based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]

In November 2024, the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee adopted a resolution condemning extrajudicial, summary, and arbitrary executions, including on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. Egypt led a group of states to propose an amendment replacing references to “sexual orientation and gender identity” with “sex,” but the language was retained, signaling global support for addressing the most grave forms of violence against marginalized communities.

** Love Makes a Family—Even When the Law Disagrees
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]

From Peru to the Philippines, families formed by love and commitment continue to face legal erasure. In Peru, single gay father Ricardo Morán ([link removed]) fought for years to have his twins, born via surrogacy, recognized as citizens—finally winning a landmark court ruling that called for reforms in discriminatory family laws. Meanwhile in the Philippines, Ros and Twyla ([link removed]) , a same-sex couple of over a decade, still navigate a system that denies their relationship legal standing, forcing them to rely on extra-legal tools to protect their shared life. These stories, part of Outright’s Love Makes a Family campaign ([link removed]) , spotlight the urgent need for inclusive legal recognition of diverse families everywhere.

** March For All: Solidarity Without Borders
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]

Not everyone can safely march during Pride. This year, Outright International, in partnership with Capital Pride and Johannes Leonardo, has launched March For All ([link removed]) —a global initiative inviting people to march on behalf of those who can't, or to have someone march for them anonymously.

Whether you join virtually, in your local Pride event, or at WorldPride Washington, DC 2025, on June 8, your action sends a powerful message: we march proudly together, wherever we are.
