Last week, I introduced the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Elimination Act. This legislation would repeal the outdated and ineffective Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC). For decades, this program has failed the very people it claims to help, while lining the pockets of politically connected developers, banks, and bureaucrats.
LIHTC is a prime example of government waste. The federal government covers up to 70% of construction costs for private developers, many of whom use these subsidies to build luxury units that do little to help low-income Americans. Meanwhile, taxpayers are left holding the bag.
Despite its intentions, LIHTC delivers poor results: only 24% of its funding actually reaches low-income households in the form of rent savings. The rest enriches special interests and fuels a bloated housing bureaucracy.
It’s time to stop throwing billions at a broken system. The elimination of LIHTC will save taxpayers $69.1 billion over a ten-year period and allow us to refocus on real solutions that actually reduce housing costs for American families, like cutting red tape and lifting barriers to construction.

Last week, the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections held a hearing on protecting the rights and freedoms of independent contractors, who overwhelmingly prefer their flexible work model over traditional employment.
Unfortunately, politicians continue to push harmful policies like California's AB5, which has already forced the state to carve out over 100 exemptions due to its damaging effects. Following California's lead, the Biden administration attempted to take that failed model nationwide, threatening the livelihoods and freedom of millions.
A nationwide reclassification of independent contractors could cost up to $57 billion, stifling innovation and shrinking the workforce.
We need solutions that support flexibility and stability. Portable benefits would allow independent workers to access health care, retirement, and childcare benefits without sacrificing freedom or control over their careers.
States are already exploring these commonsense options. It’s time Washington caught up.

Later in the week, the Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development held a hearing examining the harmful effects of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs.
DEI pushes a divisive ideology that values group identity over individual merit, often fostering discrimination, suppressing free speech, and increasing the cost of college. DEI bureaucracies drain funds from academic programs and are often used to silence dissenting viewpoints.
Worse yet, DEI programs are frequently cloaked in antisemitic rhetoric and hostile towards intellectual diversity.
Despite recent progress under the Trump administration, many universities are simply rebranding DEI efforts under new names. These programs must be held accountable.

On May 29, 1848, Wisconsin became the 30th state to join the Union. This week, we celebrated 177 years of proud history, rich culture, and strong Midwestern values that continue to define the Badger State.
From our world-renowned dairy farms and breathtaking natural beauty to our deep-rooted traditions of hard work and community, Wisconsin has so much to be proud of. But above all, it’s the people who make our state truly exceptional. They're hardworking and resilient.
As the Representative for Wisconsin’s Sixth District, I’m especially proud to serve the largest manufacturing district in the entire country. Our district is home to some of the most skilled and dedicated workers in America. These men and women power our economy, support their families, and uphold the values that built this great nation.
Representing the Sixth District is an incredible honor, and I remain committed every day to fighting for the people and industries that make Wisconsin strong.
Happy Birthday, Wisconsin!

I had a fantastic time at the Brat Barn with the Berlin Rotary Club in Green Lake, Wisconsin last weekend.
I'm grateful for the warm conversations - and of course the signature brats. There's nothing better than spending the holiday surrounded by an incredible community.

Travis and Susie embody resilience.
After tragically losing their home in a fire, I was honored to present Susie with a replacement of her Special Congressional Recognition—just over a year after celebrating her U.S. citizenship.
They even surprised me with a signed Special Olympics Wisconsin ball, a gift I’ll always treasure.
