There shall be no shenanigans today.

I'm so sorry, but I won't be able to post a story today. Boy did we have a heck of a night!

We awakened between 3 and 4 to the sound of water pouring out. My daughter got up to check all the faucets - the kitchen was fine. But when she got to the bathroom, water was rushing through a crack in the ceiling, a crack in the wall, and a light fixture. NOT GOOD.

She went to check on the young lady in the apartment above us, who was battling the same issue we had two weeks ago - hot water was spewing out of her drain faster than she could clean it up. My daughter stayed up to help her and informed building maintenance of the emergency. (They still haven't arrived, interestingly, but for now the geiser has stopped.)

We're now cleaning up the dirty water that spewed through, washing towels, and moving everything out of the vicinity of the bathroom. We're trying to decide whether to move most of our stuff to a storage unit between now and moving day (the 7th) or if tarps will suffice. I'm SO glad that we've found a place and that the move is closer than we had planned for - that seems to be some divine intervention there, doesn't it? (If you haven't heard about the new apartment, you can learn more here.)

When they came to fix our issue like this (ours was the kitchen sink) the fellow just dumped a chemical into the drain and said it was a clog. I'm no plumber but this does NOT sound like a clog to me. 1) The water is HOT. 2) A clog doesn't cause water to erupt from the drain for hours at a time - there's gotta be some kind of pressure behind that.

Anyway, for the time being, nothing is coming through the ceiling and we're just packing things up as fast as possible to get them out of the way of this mess. The wall is soft and squishy looking and we hope to get some answers soon.

I'm sorry about the lack of shenanigans, but with this little sleep and this much panic packing, I feel I am inadequately equipped for shenaniganning.

Stay safe.

Be happy.

Love,

Daisy
