John, the following is a direct quote from a Republican Congressmember:
“I am not going to hide the truth, this provision was unknown to me when I voted for that.”
That’s what Rep. Flood said at a town hall when his constituents confronted him about what was in the “big, beautiful bill.” One thing is clear: House Republicans don’t know what they voted for, and they hoped the public wouldn’t catch on, either – which is why they had waited until the dead of night to push their megabill forward.
But here at SEEC PAC, we believe that Americans deserve to be informed about what’s in the reconciliation package that’s on its way to the Senate, including:
* Giving polluters “get out of jail free cards” by letting companies pay for legal immunity for environmental reviews.
* Slapping a fine on protests filed against oil and gas leases, muzzling dissent and pro-conservation civic engagement.
* Locking up 4 million acres for coal mining, despite coal making less and less economic sense (let alone being terrible for the environment).
* Eliminating protections for endangered species who are vulnerable to offshore oil and gas operations, dooming our planet’s most endangered whale to extinction.
* Raising household energy costs while handing out tax breaks to billionaires and big polluters.
* Killing good-paying clean energy and manufacturing jobs by defunding innovation and industrial modernization.
* Demolishing incentives for electric vehicles, advanced manufacturing, and zero-emission energy.
SEEC Members are laser-focused on the myriad harmful impacts of this bill (and unlike their colleagues, our Members actually read it). From SEEC Vice Chair and Ways and Means member Don Beyer (VA-8) working to protect clean energy incentives to our 13 Natural Resources Committee members (Reps. Huffman, Neguse, Leger Fernández, Stansbury, Hoyle, Magaziner, Dingell, Elfreth, Dexter, Ansari, Brownley, Soto, and Min) fighting for our public lands, SEEC climate champions sounding the alarms about this disastrous bill. Don’t just take it from us – even someone as unhinged as Elon Musk is criticizing the bill. Tesla posted:
“Abruptly ending the energy tax credits would threaten America’s energy independence and the reliability of our grid.”
John, if they are starting to get buyer’s remorse, it’s clear just how reckless and extreme this bill really is. It’s why SEEC members are fighting back with everything they’ve got in order to expose the truth, protect our climate progress, and stop this megabill in its tracks. We can’t let Republicans sabotage America’s climate future behind closed doors – will you stand with SEEC and rush a donation to help us hold the line? [[link removed]]

Thanks to your help in 2024, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 119th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future. But if you'd like to receive fewer emails, we understand.
