Air Quality Alert Impacts Burning Permits

Burning permits will not be activated today through Monday, June 2. 

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency has issued an air quality alert for all of Minnesota today, May 30, through Monday, June 2, at 6 p.m. 

To reduce additional air pollutants, burning permits will not be issued or activated. Campfires are discouraged.

A cold front will push smoke from Canadian wildfires across the whole state. The air quality is expected to reach the red quality index (AQI) category, a level considered unhealthy for everyone, across all of Minnesota. Southern Minnesota is expected to reach orange air quality index (AQI) category, a level considered unhealthy for sensitive groups.

This air quality alert may need to be extended as additional waves o smoke may continue will be possible. For more information on the air quality alert, sensitive groups, and health effects, visit the MPCA current air quality webpage.
