Last week, the Pentagon announced that it accepted a $400 million luxury jet from the Qatari royal family which President Trump says will be used as Air Force One – then likely given to his presidential library.

Despite major security concerns and constitutional questions, Trump-appointed Attorney General Pam Bondi reportedly signed a memo endorsing the gift’s legality.

FIRSTNAME, this gift raises massive ethics concerns. And Pam Bondi used to be a registered foreign agent of the government of Qatar.

That’s why CREW is requesting records from the Department of Justice on the memo she signed clearing the gift and any information on ethics guidance she received, given her past work for Qatar.

Congress has clear rules for accepting gifts like the Qatari jet, and the Constitution's Foreign Emoluments Clause prohibits the president from accepting gifts from foreign governments without Congressional approval.

The American public needs to know whether the memo signed by Bondi addresses these issues, and other ethics, corruption and security concerns given the enormity of this gift.

The public also deserves answers on why Bondi was allowed to sign the memo in the first place. Bondi should have recused herself from the Qatari jet matter entirely to avoid any appearance of a conflict of interest given her recent work serving as a foreign agent on behalf of Qatar’s royal family.

The Qatari jet scheme raises countless red flags and deserves real scrutiny from Congress and the public.
