[link removed] [[link removed]] For years, America’s firefighters have been on the frontlines of the climate crisis, working to prevent and mitigate the devastating wildfires that threaten our homes and livelihoods each year.
And with each passing year, wildfires are spreading farther, destroying more homes, and putting more lives at risk. In 2024 alone, wildfires burned almost 2 million acres of land in Oregon — that means our firefighting force needs to adapt, and fast.
But here’s the good news: I just reintroduced the Civilian Conservation Center Enhancement Act in the House to offer specialized wildland firefighting training—and create a robust career pathway—for young people through the U.S. Forest Service’s Civilian Conservation Centers.
This bill will give the Forest Service more tools to grow and train its firefighting workforce, which will lead to stronger firefighting capabilities, safer public lands management, and more well-paying jobs for Oregonians willing to step up and protect their communities.
Passing this bill should be common sense, but with Republicans in Congress laser-focused on pushing Trump’s chaotic agenda, I need your help to give this legislation the attention it deserves: So please, can I count on you sign my petition and call on Congress to pass the Civilian Conservation Center Enhancement Act?
