I beat him in court – but our fight against the president isn’t over. Not by a long shot. Trump and his administration won’t back down easily. John, I’ve always had respect for the rule of law.

When I visited the White House in February, President Donald Trump chose to single me out in a room full of governors from both parties and threatened to unilaterally withhold federal funding from Maine school children unless we fell in line with his personal demands. When I stood my ground, he claimed he was “the law,” never mind Congress or the states.

I told him I’d see him in court.

I – along with my fellow Democratic governors across the country – will not be intimidated by the President’s threats. We refuse to be bullied. Instead, we’re taking action, pushing back, and winning.

Let me make one thing clear: My fight against Trump – as well as the fights of my fellow Democratic governors battling this administration in court – is proof that the fight against Trump’s extremism will come down to the states.

When Donald Trump decided to unlawfully freeze funds for Maine school children, my administration didn’t hesitate. I followed through on my promise and took him to court – and we won. Millions of dollars in funds for 172,000 Maine school children have been restored.

Democratic governors like myself refuse to back down from these important fights. We will not be intimidated by the President’s threats. And I am confident when we see him in court, we will continue to win time and time again.

But this victory doesn’t mean the fight is over. The work to combat Trump’s dangerous agenda is happening in the states – and we need your help right here and right now.
