Summer Interns

Congressman Sessions eats lunch with the 2025 summer intern class

Summer has arrived in Washington, D.C., and with it comes one of my favorite parts of the year, the arrival of our summer interns on Capitol Hill. Each year, I have the privilege of welcoming a talented group of young people into my office with various backgrounds and interests. Their energy, curiosity, and dedication never fail to inspire me.

Hosting summer interns is a highlight of my year. Through our internship program, these students gain firsthand experience with the inner workings of Congress. They develop their professional skills, sharpen their problem-solving abilities, and engage directly with the policymaking process. They are not just observers; they are active participants.

An internship on Capitol Hill provides a unique and enriching experience that is unlike any other internship. Where else can a college student regularly interact with lawmakers, CEOs, foreign diplomats, and policy experts, all while gaining an up-close education in American democracy? I am deeply proud of each and every intern who walks through our doors. Their enthusiasm and hard work play a vital role in our mission to serve our constituents. I look forward to continuing to welcome bright young leaders throughout the summer and helping shape the next generation of public servants.

Congressional Veteran Commendations

CVC Heart of Texas reception 2024
My office is now accepting nominations for the Congressional Veteran Commendation, a special recognition awarded to outstanding veterans from TX-17. This commendation honors not only military service, but also the continued dedication of veterans who go above and beyond in serving their communities after their time in uniform. These are the heroes among us, our neighbors, mentors, and leaders, whose stories of courage and commitment deserve to be shared and celebrated. Recipients will be recognized with official remarks entered into the Congressional Record of the United States House of Representatives as a lasting tribute to their service. Each honoree will also be celebrated at a local reception in their region of TX-17. Each year, I am deeply moved to hear the stories of bravery, sacrifice, and continued service from veterans right here at home. If you know a veteran who has made a lasting impact both in uniform and in our community, I encourage you to nominate them for this well-deserved recognition. You can learn more and find nomination details here.

Class of 2026, it is your turn to begin planning for the future! If you’re interested in attending one of our prestigious U.S. Service Academies, including West Point, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, and the Merchant Marine Academy, my office is now accepting applications for congressional nominations. As your Congressman, one of the greatest honors I have is nominating exceptional young men and women from TX-17 for consideration by these institutions. These academies offer world-class education and leadership training, preparing students to serve as commissioned officers in the United States Armed Forces. The nomination process is competitive and includes a review by a distinguished board, as well as interviews and a thorough evaluation of academic, leadership, and character qualifications. My office is here to assist you through this process.

If appointed, you won’t just be attending an elite institution, you’ll be representing Texas and the United States of America, the greatest country in the world. I’m always proud to see our district’s best and brightest earn these appointments, and I encourage all qualified students to apply.
