Last Chance To Apply For Housing Counseling Services Grant Application Extension

Applications to the FEF-HCS grant program extension are due today by 5 pm ET. The current extension is the result of a partnership with HSBC, which will allocate an additional $1.2 million in HSBC geographies for direct-to-client housing counseling services that will be awarded in three rounds. ANALYSIS: How Will The House Reconciliation Package Affect NCRC Members, And What Comes Next?

The bill advances President Trump’s tax agenda by mostly extending provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), which would primarily benefit the top 20% of households. If passed, the bill would add an additional $3.8 trillion to federal deficits by 2034. To offset these cuts, the reconciliation bill includes devastating cuts of over $700 billion to Medicaid and nearly $300 billion to SNAP, which will impact the most vulnerable households in the US. The Opportunity Zones (OZs) that were created via the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 with the intention of closing the economic gap between these communities are inadvertently accomplishing quite the opposite effect. Displaced By Design: Fifty Years Of Gentrification And Black Cultural Displacement In US Cities

Nationwide patterns of gentrification appear to be accelerating, though it remains less common than population decline and abandonment in American urban neighborhoods. 15% of central city neighborhoods had indications of gentrification, compared to the 26% which had substantial population decline over the past fifty years. Texas Bill Allowing Smaller Homes On Smaller Lots Amid Housing Affordability Crunch Advances In House

The provision would only apply in new subdivisions with at least five acres of land, and wouldn’t touch existing neighborhoods. The bill would only apply to cities with at least 150,000 residents in counties with a population of 300,000 or more — 19 of the state’s largest cities, per a Tribune analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data. It also wouldn’t apply in cases in which homeowners association and restrictive covenants prevent smaller lot sizes. [Read more]
