Trump allies are calling on him to suspend habeas corpus. Congress must act before it’s too late.

People For the American Way.

Friend,

Steve Bannon just said it out loud, and it is a serious threat to our constitutional rights.

On his podcast, Bannon – convicted felon, far-right extremist, and longtime Trump ally – urged President Trump to "ramp it up" and suspend habeas corpus.

Habeas corpus is the legal protection that prevents the government from imprisoning people without charges or access to a judge. It is one of the most fundamental rights in a free society – one protected by the U.S. Constitution.

Trump has no ability under the constitution to suspend habeas corpus, but that has never stopped this wannabe king.

Lawmakers should go on record immediately opposing such a reckless and dangerous attack on our constitution and rights to due process.

This is not just talk. Trump’s allies are openly laying the groundwork for extreme actions that bypass the courts and our constitution in an effort to silence dissent. We need a loud, public outcry to stop it before it gains traction.

Add your name now to call on Congress to defend the Constitution, protect civil liberties, and prevent this dangerous abuse of power.

Thank you for fighting to protect our rights at this critical moment.
