[May is Mental Health Awareness Month]([link removed])

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we’re reflecting on what we’ve learned from our May campaign, [In This Together: Building Emotional Resilience in Ourselves and Our Communities]([link removed]).

Whether you’re navigating the kind of everyday struggles we all face sometimes, or experiencing more serious psychological distress, there are concrete actions you can take to enhance personal resilience. But it’s also important to remember that leaning into personal resilience doesn’t mean relying solely on yourself for help. In fact, asking for help and accepting support are key forms of resilience.

You can learn more about resilience, a capacity we all have deeply rooted within us, by visiting our ["Building Resilience" webpage]([link removed]), which outlines different forms of resilience and how they can each support mental wellness and suicide prevention. You can also browse our [In This Together video series]([link removed]), in which AFSP Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christine Yu Moutier takes a deep dive into mental health best practices and important aspects of resilience.

In case you missed them earlier this month, here are some events and new media that can help you build resilience, and learn how others are doing the same:

- Mental Health Resilience Tips from Comedian Gary Gulman –– Recently, comedian Gary Gulman shared 100 practical and insightful tips on his Instagram account about how he stays resilient and proactively manages his mental health on a daily basis. On our [Real Stories blog]([link removed]), we shared just a handful of those tips. Take a look, see what works for you, and share the article on social media with your own thoughts on what helps during a difficult moment, tagging @afspnational.

- New Episode of Audacy’s I’m Listening –– In a [new episode]([link removed]) of Audacy’s I’m Listening podcast series, created in partnership with AFSP, our Chief Medical Officer Dr. Moutier joined Katie Neal, host of radio show Katie & Company, for a discussion about game-changing strategies that encourage personal resilience, and the ways we can each support –– and find support within –– our communities.

- #RealConvo Concert With Jonah Marais — In the latest [#RealConvo Concert]([link removed]) combining interview and musical performance, AFSP Director of Writing and Entertainment Outreach Brett Wean was joined by musician Jonah Marais, formerly of the renowned band Why Don’t We. Marais is now a solo artist featured in Amazon's 2025 Artists to Watch campaign, and opens up about his own mental health journey and how he finds resilience.

- Strong Talk With Ray Stenglein –– The latest episode of AFSP’s [Strong Talk podcast]([link removed]), “Building a Path to Suicide Prevention in the Construction Industry,” is now available. This episode features AFSP Vice President for Health Equity and Engagement Victor (Vic) Armstrong, MSW, in conversation with AFSP Minnesota Chapter volunteer Ray Stenglein about mental health and suicide prevention in the construction industry.

It’s important to remember that you are never alone, and that we each have a powerful set of tools to use when we’re struggling with mental health. Mental Health Awareness Month may be ending soon, but no matter what time of year, it’s always okay to [check in on your own resilience]([link removed]), and ask for support when you need it.
