Alabama lawmakers won’t draw new map

• After a major court loss, Alabama Republican lawmakers said they will forgo drawing a new congressional map until 2030 to prevent the state from being put under federal supervision for its voting laws.

The further erosion of judicial independence 

• Today, Attorney General Pam Bondi informed the American Bar Association that the Department of Justice will no longer work with the association on its rating process for judicial nominees, citing “bias” in the process. 
  
  
• “We must operate from the expectation that Trump’s picks for judges parallel his picks for other positions in their loyalty to him and his hoarding of power,” Democracy Docket guest author Keith Thirion wrote. 
  
  
• It’s important to remember that federal judges at all levels receive lifetime appointments. Thus, Trump-appointed judges won’t merely have the opportunity to prop up Trump’s exploits, they will also be able to block any attempts to repair the damage he causes for generations to come.
