Dear Green Party members and supporters

We are meeting on Tuesday, June 3rd, 7 - 9pm at Grosvenor Community Hall, Vincent St, London SW1P 4HB and we have special guests attending! We have confirmation from Senator Mehreen Faruqi (deputy leader of the Australian Greens) and Saiqa Ali (Lambeth Green Party councillor candidate and founder of Southern Women’s Aid Network- SWAN). Other speakers are expected to join us, so a lively meeting is promised.

The focus of the meeting is to welcome new members, so this meeting will be a joint event with other West London Green Parties such as Barnet, Brent, Camden, Ealing, Hounslow and we have asked the London Federation of Green Parties to email to all new joiners from this region.

Looking ahead to council elections in 2026, We can give you an update on our Target Ward candidate selection. Pete Johnson from the Lambeth Green Party has agreed to be the Electoral Returning Officer [ERO]. The plan is to launch the process at the meeting on 3rd June and to give interested candidates 2 weeks to submit their statements and nominations. We will then invite all the candidates to attend hustings at the next monthly meeting on Tuesday 1st July. We will open the voting process 3 days after the hustings to let members vote by 5th July.

The candidates interested in Harrow Road (and their nominators) must be residents of Westminster or need to work in the Borough. The candidates in Golborne (and their nominators) must be residents of Kensington & Chelsea or need to work in the Borough. However, all members of WCL will be able to vote in this election, as we will be campaigning across each of the boroughs.

We will be running the process in parallel for Harrow Road Ward and Golborne Ward but will be selecting 2 out of 3 candidates in each ward. The 3rd candidate slot in each ward will be held back for now to ensure greater community engagement and will be filled by September 2025. At the end of this process, in each ward, we will ensure that there is at least one candidate who is from the global majority and is a woman or non-binary.
