John, I served our country for 25 years. Deployed all over the world. Flew in combat. Made nearly 400 successful carrier landings.

So, I think I can say this with a little authority: Nobody in the military really likes doing parades. They're almost always on a holiday, or what should be a day off. You’ve got to make sure your uniform is perfect. You’re marching in formation all day.

But, I get it. They’re fun for people. They’re a good way for people to get closer to the military. To see the folks serving our country, up close, and to show our appreciation for them. They deserve to be celebrated.

Somebody who does not deserve a parade is Donald Trump. He’s shredding the Constitution and taking a sledgehammer to the programs and services veterans depend on. And after all he’s done, he’s got the nerve to co-opt the Army’s 250th anniversary and make it his own birthday parade?

It’s a disgrace, honestly.

If there’s anything I can do to prevent Trump from taking that special day and making it all about himself, I’m going to do it.
