President's Message

School nurses are so much more than healthcare providers — you are guardians of student well-being, advocates for safe learning environments, and essential leaders in your school communities. Every day, you make decisions that impact the lives of others. And with that responsibility comes the need for tools, knowledge, and confidence to handle legal challenges, document your care with precision, and advocate fearlessly and effectively.

That's why I'm proud to share NASN's Legal Survival Series: An Educational Series for School Nurses, designed with you in mind.

Topics include:

  • How to Reduce Your Liability: What Every School Nurse Needs to Know
  • Students with Disabilities: Legal Issues
  • Surefire Documentation Techniques for School Nurses
  • You Might Testify in a Case: Learn the Ins and Outs

Your work matters. Let NASN help you do it safely and with confidence.

Kate King, DNP, MS, RN, LSN

Using tobacco products can significantly worsen asthma symptoms and can lead to a more severe disease over time. Not only does the use of tobacco products lessen the effectiveness of asthma management medication, making asthma symptoms more difficult to control, but it can also worsen daily symptoms by irritating airways and reducing lung function. Learn more about the adverse effects of tobacco and asthma by viewing the new one-page resource from the American Lung Association.
